Welcome to Free Walking Tour Niš, a relaxed and informative walk through one of the oldest cities in Europe. In just two hours, you’ll discover the history, architecture, culture, and everyday life of Niš while exploring its most important landmarks and streets.
Our tour begins at King Milan Square, the heart of the city and the perfect place to start understanding Niš and its past. From there we walk to the historic Niš Fortress, one of the best preserved Ottoman fortifications in the Balkans.
After the fortress, we continue along the river promenade to the monument dedicated to the legendary Roma singer Šaban Bajramović. At this point we also talk about the nearby Officer’s Home (Niš), an important historical and cultural building that played a major role in the social life of the city.
The tour continues through Lole Ribara Street, reaching the central crossroads where you’ll see the National Theatre in Niš, the Niš Court Building, and the historic Army House (Niš).
From there we head into the charming Kazandžijsko Sokače, the old craftsmen’s street full of traditional cafés and local atmosphere. We finish the walk on Obrenovićeva Street, the city’s lively pedestrian zone. Along the way we also pass through Dušanova Street, where you’ll see the impressive Main Post Office Building (Niš).
During the tour you’ll get an all-in-one introduction to Niš — its history, architecture, sightseeing spots, nightlife, cafés, food culture, and the unique spirit of southern Serbia.
After the tour, if anyone would like to stay for coffee, a drink, or lunch, I’m always happy to help with recommendations or join you for a relaxed chat about the city.
